In this exclusive online information session, Rachel Perkins (award-winning filmmaker and a signatory to the Uluru Statement from the Heart) spoke to the upcoming referendum on the Voice to Parliament to assist teachers in understanding the significance of the Voice to Parliament (with reference to the Uluru Statement).

The session offered deep insights into the increasingly complex public debate, and what it means for contemporary Australia and future generations.

For generations, since British occupation, Indigenous Australians have sought recognition of their unique place in Australian history and society. The Uluru Statement from the Heart builds on decades of consultation and discussions among Indigenous peoples. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have sought, that recognition in Australia's constitution, takes the form of a Voice to parliament – a say in the matters that affect their daily lives. The Uluru Statement reaffirms Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ desires for lasting and effective agreement-making and a process of Truth-telling.

ATOM Vic. Managing Editor, Peter Castaldi moderated the session.
