It's not often that we see non-white faces on Australian television; it's even less common to have East Asians and Middle Easterners take centre stage. Serangoon Road gives us a taste of what this could be like, but, Dave Hoskin argues, the series' depiction of tumultuous 1960s Singapore and its diverse inhabitants is a little lacklustre.
