Gender Equity in Retreat: The Declining Representation of Women's Sport in the New Zealand Print Media

The provocation for this replication study of gender representation in newpsper sport's coverage in New Zealand is threefold. It relates to a research commitment to systematic media monitoring to provide an accurate picture of gender representation in the news media; it is motivated by the need to examine the influence of increased commercial imperatives driving media sport; and it aims to address the conflicting strands of evidence about the portrayal of women in the news.
