Englewood, Chicago, is one of the United States' most dangerous neighbourhoods, with fatal shootings an all-too-regular occurrence – a collective tragedy that is borne primarily by the area's African-American population, and that serves as the injustice at the heart of George Gittoes' latest film. In turning his lens on this troubled setting, the veteran Australian documentarian sought to foreground the perspectives and voices of the locality's residents, as he tells Stephen A Russell.
