Persons of Interest explores the Australian intelligence authority files of four people during the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s – writer and journalist Roger Milliss, Vietnam War protester Michael Hyde, Aboriginal activist Gary Foley and writer Frank Hardy.
In each case the subject or his family responds to and comments on their official and formerly secret Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) file. Each program explores the incidents recorded and includes never-before-seen secret surveillance footage of the subjects and others.
The series provides a window on the Cold War period in Australia and raises issues about state surveillance and privacy that are relevant today.
