Jungle Rain (Oxygen Television, 2006) is a 45-minute documentary film about the impact of the Vietnam War on New Zealand Vietnam War veterans and their families. Soldiers had contact with toxic chemicals known as 'Agent Orange'. The film focuses on the way acknowledgement of that contact was denied and hushed up by the Governments of the last thirty years.
It raises issues about:
- how a nation becomes involved in war,
- the impact of war on the soldiers and their families,
- a government's responsibility towards its soldiers both during and after the war, and
- the responsibility of citizens of a country to its soldiers during an unpopular war
... all of which are as relevant in the 2000s as they were in the 1960s and early 1970s.
