This ground-breaking Cutting Edge Basic English series designed by psychologist Eve Ash and ESL expert Dr Fran Byrnes, can be used in a wide range of language learning situations, in classrooms and for self-study. The series can be used for learners prior to using the popular Cutting Edge English at Work series.

Part of the Basic English series, this program is founded on conventional, proven language learning principles and approach and presented in an innovative and effective style. Great characters in humorous circumstances help viewers (and teachers) have fun as they learn. They engage learners through amusing situations, entertaining characters, and interesting conversations. With real language, fun storylines and high quality production with practical activities this ESL program is built to optimise viewer and employee engagement.

The 'How Was Your Week?' episode of the Cutting Edge Basic English series covers how to talk about things that happened in the past tense – this morning, yesterday, last week, last month.

Each program has six sections:

1. Language functions: A practical opening to each program showing how we do things with language such as meeting, informing, asking, thanking, comparing etc.

2. Grammar: A simple introduction to basic English grammar with examples of how it is used.

3. Everyday expressions: Explains common phrases and expressions that non-English speakers can use in their speech.

4. Vocabulary: Word knowledge is developed through highlighting key words in everyday language.

5. Tips: Encouragement and suggestions will help new learners build confidence in speaking English.

6. Speaking practice: Examples are provided that recap the program and provide opportunities to practice.

This series builds on the successful Cutting Edge Communication Comedy series, created by Eve Ash and comedienne Erin Brown.
