In this modified version of a lecture given at the English Teachers' Association of NSW HSC Area of Study Student Day at Darling Harbour on 3 November 2003, Jane Mills likens the undertaking of Year 12 studies to a journey. She draws on examples which show learning as a journey, discusses the notions of metaphor and contextual metaphors, explores the role of the teacher and outlines the journey as an area of study.
