Film as Text. Rolf de Heer's The Tracker (2002) is set in 1922, but it is presented more as a parable than as a historical realist film. It is an intellectual and at times didactic piece of cinema that constructs its commentary on contemporary race relations around the Aboriginal tracker, an almost mythic character.
