More than just a remake of the cult, pitch-black 1980s comedy of the same name, the new TV series is a savage satire of high-school popularity, selfishness and performative 'wokeness' in a milieu ruled by identity politics. While some of its criticisms hit their mark, Elizabeth Flux argues that the show nonetheless misses an opportunity for a more nuanced exploration of the ethics of motivation and outcome.
