In Drown, Dean Francis weaves together a story of brawn, brotherhood and brutality in a Sydney beachside lifesaving club. Going deeper, however, the film is just as much about the encounter between straight and gay identities, and Australian culture's veneration of heterosexual masculinity, writes Nathan Smith.
