I had set up an interview with Alkinos Tsilimidos following a screening of his latest work, Silent Partner, during the 2001 Melbourne International Film Festival. My interest in his work came out of my thesis on the contemporary Australian prison film, where I discuss his first feature, Everynight… Everynight (1994), in detail. Following the screening I realised that Silent Partner explores similar themes to Everynight… Everynight. Both films address issues of male identity, masculinity and sexuality. As David Field features in both films, I was delighted that he and Syd Brisbane offered to participate in the interview. Silent Partner is, for them, a real collaboration, a joint project.
