Yolngu dancer, storyteller and thespian David Gulpilil has been one of Australia's most iconic and celebrated actors over fifty years on screen, and in Molly Reynolds' documentary portrait the elderly, terminally ill performer looks back unsparingly on his illustrious and sometimes troubled life. With his increasingly well-rounded film roles over the course of his career having mirrored broader changes in representation of Aboriginal characters on screen, Gulpilil leaves a significant legacy in his wake – and this documentary serves as a fitting farewell, finds Kath Dooley.
