National Identity in Australian Documentaries

This article was presented as a dialogue at the ATOM National Conference 2004. It focuses on the motif of the anti-hero in the context of cultural insularity and heterogeneity reinforced by the vulnerability of the Australian film industry within a global cinema market. The authors discuss the comments made by the following filmmakers: Karin Altmann, Lawrence Johnston, Russell Porter, Dennis K. Smith and Steve Thomas.
