Living in America: Expression, Representation and Kate Hickey's 'Roller Dreams'

Documenting the roller-dancing community of California's Venice Beach – both during its heyday in the late twentieth century and through the present-day recollections of select members – Roller Dreams nods to the lack of visibility and ongoing struggles that weigh down the lives of those who occupy marginal positions in society, writes Sarah Ward.
