I, Spry (2010), a documentary about the career of Colonel Charles Spry, appointed head of ASIO in its earliest days, gives us a framework through which we're able to reflect on present-day norms, values and situations, but an emotional connection to the on-screen talking heads is lacking, writes Sue Swinburne.
