The first ever film to depict the suffering experienced by the Kurdish Yazidi people, The Dark Wind recounts a fictionalised tale about a woman abducted by terrorists, rescued by her fiancé and seemingly scorned by the community she returns to. Arguably, the feature was made with the best of intentions, but its noticeable resonances with Hollywood approaches does also raise questions regarding its message, writes David Crewe.
