Depicting the conception, rehearsal and performance of a ballet inspired by Jane Campion's seminal 1993 film The Piano, this New Zealand documentary offers insights into the interplay between dancers and choreographers, along with the physical and psychological pressures exerted by the process. Speaking with director Rebecca Tansley, Jasmine Crittenden looks at some of the thornier issues around perspective, artistic control and cultural appropriation underlying and uncovered by the film.
