THE STORY SO FAR ...
In Narnia it is three years since Prince Caspian became King. In England a year has passed since Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy returned from their second adventure in Narnia. Susan and the children's parents are visiting America, Peter is studying for an exam with Professor Kirke and Edmund and Lucy are staying with their aunt, uncle and cousin Eustace in Cambridge.
In Lucy's bedroom there is a picture of a sailing ship with a dragon's head bow. Magically the three children find themselves being drawn into the picture and falling into the sea. Rescued by Caspian, Reepicheep and Drinian, the King tells them he has made a vow to Aslan to search for the seven lost Lords of Narnia that years before went to explore the Eastern seas ...
IN THIS BOOK...
They all set out on a fantastic adventure aboard the ship The Dawn Treader. Even though Caspian is the official leader of the group, they all know that the Great Lion, Aslan, is really the One who is in charge. Although mostly invisible, from time to time they catch a glimpse of Him or Aslan appears to them. As well as guiding the overall voyage, He takes each of the crew on their own personal journey.
Because CS Lewis was a Christian, who knew his Bible inside out, we find many echoes between this story and the adventures of the early Christians that we call the Acts of the Apostles, especially the section describing sea voyages (Acts 27 - 28). In this book although Jesus is not visible, it is His Spirit who guides and leads them on.
