The Bicentennial of the First Fleet on 26 January 1988 was a watershed moment in Australian history. With part of the country swept up in celebration, it also gave impetus to the largest gathering of indigenous people ever seen in Australia.
An enlightening factual account, following the dedicated individuals and vocal proponents along a caravan of solidarity, 88 details the events leading up to the remarkable gathering, telling the stories of the many people who came together to bring voice to past injustice and make a concerted effort to elucidate Australia's true history.

The protest that occurred on that day instigated mass public debate about the concept of Australian history, the position of Aboriginal people in contemporary society and their sheer determination to be heard. It signaled in an era of change and the beginning of true reconciliation, reminding white Australia it had a black history.
