Australian and American Pacific War prisoners and escapees tell their amazing stories. They were expected to die but refused to give up. How did they survive against all odds?

• Padre John May MBE, a former Australian Army Padre and ex-POW;
• Lex Fraser OAM, a former Captain, Number 1 Independent Company and ex-POW;
• Sister Berenice Twohill, a Catholic nun, qualified teacher and nurse who was imprisoned in Rabaul;
• Paul Meltzer, a former Catalina pilot and ex-POW;
• Rudy Buckley, an indigenous resident of Rabaul, who talks about his experiences as a twelve-year-old during the Japanese occupation;
• Len Woolf, a former Australian Army soldier who evaded Japanese forces to escape from New Britain;
• Lorna Whyte Johnston, a former Australian Army nurse and ex-POW;
• Norm Furness, a former Australian Army soldier who evaded the enemy to escape from New Britain;
• John Holland, who talks about his dad Frank Holland, a former Z Special Unit operative who saved many Rabaul escapees;
• Fred Kollmorgen, a former Australian Army soldier and sole Salvation Army band survivor, who evaded Japanese forces to escape from New Britain;
• John Kepchia, an American Gruman radio operator and gunner, who was shot down and imprisoned in Rabaul;
• Joe Nason, an American SBD Douglas Dauntless dive bomber pilot, who was shot down and imprisoned in Rabaul.
