Transported to Australia as a convict, Magwitch works hard to establish a new life, keeping his head low and his neck out of the noose by working for a man named Tankerton (Ron Haddrick) and befriending his daughter Bridget (Sigrid Thornton). Frustrated by Bridget's relationship with arch-enemy Compeyson, Magwitch sets his sights on the gold rush, looking to strike it lucky one day and benevolently reward young Pip (Todd Boyce) back in England, a boy who truly helped him in his time of need.
