In this article, Malcolm Burt clearly outines some basics to keep in mind when teaching students what to do with a digital video camera. He acknowledges the use of having students 'make mistakes' along the way to learning new and exciting techniques, but suggests that there are a number of cliched errors that can easily be avoided including: endless panning shots, rampant zooming and inappropriate handheld and autofocus. He also explores types of shots, storyboarding, continuity and crossing the line.
