Analysing a suite of recent Netflix shows that share a fixation with the experiences of American teenagers – often accompanied by supernatural and socially engaged themes – Jeff Spanke and Chea Parton contend that these series have much to say about culturally constructed understandings of adolescence and adolescent identity. As such, they posit, these shows make for pertinent texts in secondary-classroom and teacher-training contexts alike.
