Priscella Engall Talks to Irish novelist and screenwriter Roddy Doyle. 'There is no doubt he leans towards the Woody Allen school of thought when it comes to film moments. He is an unabashed fan of motion pictures. And so in his first screenplay written exclusively for the big screen, a romantic comedy called "When Brendan Met Trudy" (Kieron J. Walsh, 2000) his leading man goes to the cinema, uses the language of film criticism to bond with the girl of his dreams and finally finds himself acting out scenes from his favourite movies after he falls head over heels in love.'
