In this article, Buffy is analysed alongside its gothic predecessors – Dracula and Frankenstein: Or, the Modern Prometheus for its concern with constructions of femininity and masculinity, and the power relations inherent in those constructions. The fear and anxiety that can be read in these texts on both a personal and societal level are also explored, and the elements of contemporary society that these speak to.
