For nearly as long as cinema has existed, it has been revisiting the magical world of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, finding new and idiosyncratic ways of adapting the classic text. Looking at six of these films, Susan Bye assesses how their visions of Alice converge and differ, and what they demonstrate about the creative potential of film technology.
