This gender-bending teen film – a loose adaptation of Shakespeare's The Twelfth Night – presents many challenges to the status quo, even if it ultimately reinforces mainstream gender norms. Adolfo Aranjuez demonstrates how She's the Man can introduce students to ideas about hegemony and, in turn, give them the tools to interrogate the ideologies at play in Hollywood cinema.
