Continuous thematic exploration, conceptual experimentation and the play of ideas are apparent in Wong Kar-wai's films. Each of his films offers a permutation of an instance, an extension to a previous experiment, or a reconfiguration of an existing narrative. In Ashes of Time (1994), as in Days of Being Wild (1990), the narrative is woven together by the chance meeting of disparate characters, who are brought together by their memories and their desire to forget. The narrative of Chungking Express (1994) is extended in Fallen Angels (1995), where references to characters, events and instances in the former are drawn out, reworked and re-presented. Similarly, it is not difficult to see the correlation between Days of Being Wild and In the Mood for Love (2000).
