Helmed by the director of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, new film Swinging Safari is equal parts gaudy ocker comedy and grotesque retrospective for a bygone time. According to Dave Crewe, however, buried in its humour are missed moments of cutting satire about the sometimes-slipshod progressiveness and political instability of 1970s Australia.
