As Keith Beattie points out in this NFSA Kodak/Atlab Cinema Collection essay, Morning of the Earth (1972) ignores or revises the traditions of nonfiction surf films, and documentary generally, in which a voice-over narration or titles are used to specify the content of imagery. Its vision of a late 1960s countercultural lifestyle, reinforced through a soundtrack that resonated with the film's youthful audience, defined and inspired a generation of surfers.
