Nicholas Wrathall's disturbing and illuminating documentary weaves together stories and scenes from the titular region in north-west Australia, offering cinematic testimony on the dislocation and disadvantage afflicting its Aboriginal residents as well as the ongoing threats to the unique natural landscape posed by Big Mining and Big Agriculture. The film offers persuasive evidence that we need to look beyond simplistic and compromised media portrayals of this region, writes Rochelle Siemienowicz.
