Contemporary Japanese cinema comes to town. The fourth annual Japanese Film Festival, which toured major Australian cities through October and November, chowcased three films which illuminate Japanese life at the millennium. All three films – Adrenalin Drive, directed by Shinobu Yaguchi, Gakko III: The New Voyage, directed by veteran Yoji Yamada (responsible for the Tora-San series), and Love Letter, directed by Shunji Iwai – are contemporary dramas with a strong sense of irony, demonstrating fine cinematography and art direction.
