Tales from the Islands: Raya Martin and Contemporary Philippine Film

At only twenty-nine years of age, Filipino director Raya Martin has featured at festivals in Berlin, Toronto, Vladivostok and Hong Kong, among many others, and he was the first ever director from his home country to be take part in Cannes' Cinéfondation Résidence. But his recent work How to Disappear Completely – ostensibly a horror film – reveals how the prodigious and prolific artist is in crisis, writes Mara Coson.
