The Olympic Games consumed our time, our media and our passions for a few weeks in 2000. As other sports events and new reality TV shows overtake our memories of the Olympic mega-event, and as the participants have moved on to other sites, its significance in the history of Australian television needs to be clarified. This article aims to make a contribution to the process by exploring the relations between host broadcaster the Sydney Olympic Broadcasting Organization (SOBO), official Olympic broadcaster the Seven Network, and the other television outlets forced into various compromises in order to have any role as 'Olympic hosts'.
