The third feature by Korean director Na Hong-jin – which centres on the tribulations of a town plagued by demons, zombies and evil spirits – builds on his earlier work's crafty depictions of violence and unique takes on horror tropes. According to James Robert Douglas, it also channels the filmmaker's Christian beliefs, portraying how fact and evidence can falter in the face of the supernatural.
