When the rumours started, when news of the drastic action being proposed by the Nation Library of Australia (NLA) spread through film cultural circles, users of the LIbrary's Film and Video Lending Service (FLS) leapt to support and defend what really is an exceptional and invaluable collection of films and videos.

Those exciting technological breakthroughs that allow pigs to speak in Babe (Chris Noonan, 1995) and create tornadoes, complete with flying cows and houses, in Twister (Jan de Bont, 1996), are just some of the developments in digital technology that have, inadvertently, brought about a crisis in the post-production process in film and television which, if not addressed seriously and soon, could visibly affect the films up there on the screen.
