There are a hell of a lot of films at the Montreal World Film Festival. And, amazingly, there are people at all of them. You can go at 9am on a weekday to see some obscure Peruvian comedy and there will be an audience – not all of them Peruvians. And no matter how awful it is, the audience will stay and, if the filmmaker is present, applaud at the end. The ticket prices are reasonable, and for a flat amount you can buy a pass that allows unlimited access to all films until 5pm. All of which makes film viewing hectic but highly enjoyable; if you don't like what's playing in one theatre, you can always get up and check out the alternatives next door.
