Peter Wilshire looks at the career of writer/director/actor Nick Giannopoulas, and reviews his latest film 'The Wannabes' (2003). 'No one would question the passion and commitment that Giannopoulos has for the Australian film industry, as well as the need for Australians to explore their own culture. But does 'The Wannabes' really do this? Is it a uniquely Australian film? While 'The Wannabes' does depict 'Aussie battlers', the story is much more generic than the culturally specific 'wog' humour in 'The Wog Boy', which has become a distinctly Australian sub-genre.'
