'For many years Taiwan was perhaps best known as a partner in other Chinese cinemas, such as that of Hong Kong. The increase international prominence of film makers such as Hou Hsiao-hsien, Tsai Ming-liang and Edward Yang over the past twenty years has now focused attention on a rich new vein in Taiwanese art cinema. One of the highlights of February's Adelaide International Film Festival will be the Australian premiere of 'Blue Gate Crossing', the second feature by Taiwanese director, Yee Chih-Yen.'
