Perhaps the most ubiquitous of all big-screen franchises, the Star Wars series has often prioritised entertainment over scientific accuracy in constructing its singular, iconic universe. As Dave Crewe finds, however, there is a complex mixture of fact, fiction and speculation lying underneath the films' fanciful concepts – and, as such, plentiful learning opportunities for curious science students.
