'If you had only seen a few Australian features in the last years you might have felt that the Bowling Club had emerged as a master image and metaphor for the falling away of that generation which fought in the Second World War and produced the baby boomers. The gentle and surreal "Road To Nhill" (Sue Brooks, 1997) was one way of looking at the passing of a whole way of life, and now "Crackerjack" picks up the first trope and runs with it for what at first seems merely comedic intention, but which ultimately reaches beyond the gag to something other.'
