Submariners is an expository-style documentary series suitable for senior secondary students comprising six half-hour episodes following the crew of HMAS Rankin, the newest of Australia's Collins-class submarines, as they sail halfway around the world to take on the best of the US Navy in the world's biggest naval war games. The film focuses on those men and women who have made an extraordinary career choice that sees them shut away from the world, their families and friends for months on end. How do they cope with the confinement of their living and working environment? How does their constant training help them to deal with the emergencies that may endanger their boat and their lives? Explore the dynamics of these keen, determined and professionally minded people as they undertake Rankin's first overseas deployment: a voyage from Western Australia to Korea, Japan, Hawaii and back home again.
