A 13-part TV comedy series for years 4–7 Media Studies, English and SOSE that satirizes the superhero genre with a playful approach that encourages children to think about values of friendship, loyalty, justice, community service and role models.
Building on the popularity of Superman, Batman and Spiderman, Legacy of the Silver Shadow follows the adventures of Josh, Alex, Campbell, and Gretel, four ordinary kids who discover the underground headquarters of the Silver Shadow, a long-forgotten dead superhero. Although defeated in the 1950s by his arch enemy, the Crab, the Silver Shadow lives on as a digital recording in an old computer. Reactivated by the kids, the Shadow convinces this unlikely team to take up his battle against evil and injustice. It provides rich opportunities for the study of a popular culture phenomenon in an Australian context, the nature of heroism, issues of identity, friendship, bullying, jealousy and artificial intelligence.
Legacy of the Silver Shadow is supported by free resources, which can be found at the ACTF online Learning Centre at http://www.actf.com.au.
