'If the shoe fits, then wear it' goes the well-worn saying. But what if the shoe belongs to another gender? And yet is the only thing that gives you a sense of your inner self?
Becoming Colleen is a documentary about an 85-year-old transgender woman, transitioning from male to female in the conservative coastal community of Coffs Harbour on the NSW mid-north coast.
Having lived most of her life as Colin – a husband, father, policeman, film-projectionist and self-declared shoe fetishist, Colleen is transitioning her gender identity as she enters into aged care.
More than a documentary about the transitioning of an elderly transgender woman: this is a story of two people whose love transcended their traditional gender roles; a small community that comes together to support a woman in pursuit of her greatest dream; and about the joy of finding the perfect pair of shoes.
ATOM has also produced a study guide for Becoming Colleen. This study guide is available for download here.
Becoming Colleen is also available to stream for 7-day rental, 30-day rental, 1-year rental and lifetime access here.
