A Film as Text on Being John Malkovich (Spike Jonze, 1999) by Jonathan Dawson. Dawson writes that while the film is based upon a bizarre premise, close analysis of it reveals quite a classical plot and story structure, although one encrusted with grotesque and whimsical details along the way. It is a film that asks all sorts of intriguing questions about playacting, critics and the very nature of performance.
