Nicole Ma spent over ten years with Tom 'Putuparri' Lawford and the Wangkajunga, documenting their travels between the township of Fitzroy Crossing and Kurtal, an Aboriginal sacred site in Western Australia's Great Sandy Desert. The resulting documentary is a masterful chronicle of a man 'caught' between two worlds – following years of colonialism and dispossession – and seeking to reconnect with his roots, writes Thomas Redwood.
