A modern, Melbourne-set adaptation of Joseph Conrad's early-twentieth-century novel The Secret Agent, Jonathan Ogilvie's political thriller updates the book's themes of terrorism, intimate betrayal and government corruption to a world of smartphones and CCTV. Yet, for all the film's timely thematic material, its intentions and aesthetic choices end up being somewhat more ambiguous, writes Jake Wilson.
