Artificial Inheritance: Robotics and Responsibility in Grant Sputore's 'I Am Mother'

Set in a post-apocalyptic Earth whose rehabilitation is under the stewardship of an advanced android, I Am Mother inspires contemplation not just on the capabilities of machines but, more immediately, on the environmental crisis facing us today. Yet the film also follows in a long line of sci-fi and speculative fiction works – and its execution is not without its defects, writes Dave Crewe.
