'In the language of American Universities, director Paul Middleditch's film 'A Cold Summer' would be described as a work of Creative Non-Fiction; something derived from people's lives but treated in a literary style. In the movies, it's called "cinema verite"...It's when a combination of real life and improvisation are played out in front of a lens that's prepared to follow the action as much as dictate it. I guess it's what Picasso meant when he said "Art is a lie that tells the truth."'
